SEPTMEBER: Friday with Friends - TwEENS (In studio & Online)
Now that school is in full swing, we will dive into more brain talk and discuss how EMBRACING A GROWTH MINDSET will increase our success in school and improve our relationships.
Preregistering is REQUIRED, so that we can have the studio set up for covid-19 safety. You can register for in-person or online instruction. If your tween connects via zoom, I strongly recommend they have a friend attend with them so that they can practice new skills at home with a friend, while the in-person students practice skills in the studio. If registered by Thursday August 23rd at noon, you can pick up supplies from the studio for the art project. If you are not local, please contact me about art supplies.
BRAIN TALK
When we were kids, intelligence was thought to be fixed. Now research shows that intelligence continues to develop throughout our lives.
This is great news, because it means we can continue to improve and learn throughout our lives. Even if we don't consider ourselves to be "good" at math, reading, art, etc., we can develop any skill we want by understanding that whenever we pratice any skill, we become better at it. We will learn that when we make mistakes (and perhaps our perfectionistic thoughts take over), we can actually celebrate the mistake, instead of letting it defeat us, because each time we make a mistake we are learning and developing skills in that area.
MAKING FRIENDS
This month, we will continue asking questions to show interest, while becoming detectives to scope out and learn about possible friend connections we can make. We will discuss how we can watch and listen for clues that someone is worth engaging in conversation, and how to naturally make that connection.
MEDITATION & MINDFUL MOVEMENT
We will practice a guided meditaion, creating a sacred space of our own that we can visit anytime/anywhere whenever we need to center and calm out minds.
We will use mindful movement to build strength, learning challenging poses that we can practice at home.
CRAFTS
Our craft time will allow us to socialize and chat, while enjoying creative expression. This month we will be exploring the Japanese art of kintsugi, and practice a similar technique. We will take broken pictures of pottery and turn them into works of art, while discussing how mistakes become helpful and lead to a better outcome when embraced and appreciated.
